Acid Clouds And Green Gas

“Whipped!” Is acidic. It’s a squirming, wiggling mess. Whenever you feel on its level of chill, it changes up. It’s not really a reflection of reality but more of a distant dream that occasionally strays. You are lucid dreaming of a wonderful place, but it’s raining acid from the sky perpetually. Tiny Mix Tapes picked up on that acid and hailed the tape as: “Some sort of sad techno, tropical hell. The acid clouds are in a cycle of nearly solidifying and then reverting to their original states before the transformation can totally happen. Sounds bake in the heat. They’re roasting and brutally compressed.”
Lipglo$$ themself describe it as “Very me. I’m not one for astrology but I’m a water monkey and very crafty and slippery. This is a crafty slippery fucker that will burn your hand.” Tracks like “Leather Castle” sounds so sweet and mystic, like floating away at a reasonable pace, until it all goes weird. It enters some kind of ambient acid jazz sphere that disintegrates into a the previous peace. But you no longer trust it.
This deep in its amazing that Lipglo$$ continued to find new pockets of unexplored sound. This remains in the same sphere as some of their other albums but is orbiting on its own. It’s a polished product of an artist who knew their strengths and how sounds interact, and was testing the limits of both. WHIPPED! Is a sign of growth and maturity and is the moment where an artist has experimented themselves into something pop adjacent. Some of the tracks are still clipping but it’s only when it adds focus and depth as Lipglo$$ envisioned. The final four of their albums we will reissue in our first year sound nothing like this record. It’s a worthy trip into the void. And not bad on the ears either.
